Next time you’re feeling down, try this anti-inflammatory and healthy turmeric shot with fresh or powdered turmeric. You can make this recipe with or without a blender or juicer.
Wellness shots taste great and have anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric specifically fights infections and is good for your body and your brain. This root of the ginger family fights inflammation, improves memory and reduces the risk of heart disease.
You can buy turmeric shots at your local health food store or juice bars, but they’re expensive. That’s why I like to make mine at home. You only need four ingredients and less than 20 minutes to conjure up a turmeric shot.
You can use fresh turmeric root to get as many nutrients as possible, but you can also use the powder if you’re short on time or ingredients. All you need is turmeric, lemon, coconut water and black pepper.
Why you need this recipe
Brands like Vive and Kor cost around $4 for a 2-ounce shot. While this may not seem expensive, it can add up if you want more than one!
Turmeric wellness shots are a great way to improve gut health and a natural way to boost energy levels.
Homemade turmeric shots are super easy to make, like “put all ingredients in blender and puree” very simple.
main ingredients
Turmeric Root – Turmeric root is a close relative of ginger root. It has an earthy and bitter taste with a bright orange interior. It is known for many scientifically proven health benefits.
lemon – Lemons are packed with vitamin C, which lowers the risk of heart disease.
coconut water – Refreshing coconut water tames the taste of lemon and turmeric. It’s also high in potassium and naturally sweet. If you don’t like the taste, you can use water instead. However, they lose some of the natural sweetness.
Black pepper – Black pepper might seem like an odd ingredient for a wellness shot, but it’s a conscious choice. Black pepper contains a substance called piperine which increases the absorption of curcumin – the main component of turmeric.
recipe steps
Step one
If you’re using fresh turmeric root, gently peel off the skin with a knife or the back of a spoon.
As always, please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.
step two
Cut the turmeric into pieces and place in a high speed blender.
step three
Add the lemon juice, coconut water and black pepper.
step four
Turn blender to high and blend for 30-45 seconds or until ingredients are smooth.
step five
Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth to remove the pulp.
step six
Transfer the juice to a glass or pitcher. Drink immediately or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
I hope your family enjoys this wellness shot recipe as much as mine does.
Recipe tips & substitutes

Simply combine 2 teaspoons of ground turmeric into a jar with a lid. Next, add the lemon juice, coconut water, and black pepper to the jar with the dried turmeric. Place the lid on the jar and shake vigorously until the ground turmeric is well mixed with the juice.

Here’s a delicious homemade carrot juice recipe that’s packed with vitamin C. This recipe uses carrots, oranges, lemon and ginger for the ultimate healthy fresh juice. Make this recipe using a juicer or blender.
If you’ve never tried homemade carrot juice, then a real treat awaits. Because carrots are a naturally sweet vegetable, they’re perfect as a base for a juice.
For this recipe, I added a few other ingredients including lemon, orange, and ginger to take this carrot juice recipe to the next level.
Why you need this recipe
This recipe contains almost 70% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C. And vitamin C is known to be a powerful immune system supporter.
Carrot juice benefits are known to include: immune health, eye health, relief from constipation, reduction of bad cholesterol and more. Learn more about the health benefits of carrot juice.
The sap is sweet, slightly tangy, making it perfect for repelling seasonal bugs. It’s also a very moisturizing recipe. I suggest using it as a base for my Swiss Chard smoothie or anti-cancer greens smoothie recipe.
main ingredients
While you can just use carrots to make a homemade carrot juice, I think adding a few other ingredients makes it extra special. The lemon and orange juices add sparkle, while the ginger adds a little whiff.
Chances are you already have these ingredients in your fridge or pantry. Check out my complete clean eating shopping list.
carrots contain beta-carotene and are naturally sweet. They’re also really affordable and easy to find any time of the year (see all my clean eating tips on a budget). For all of these reasons, carrots are on my list of the best vegetables for juicing.
oranges Bring a familiar taste to this vegetable juice. You can use any type of orange you can get your hands on, including navy oranges, Valencia oranges, Spanish oranges, or Cara Cara oranges.
lemon brightens the combined flavors.
Ginger gives this delicious carrot juice combination a little kick of taste.
Make homemade juice
There are two main ways to make juice at home. You can use a juicer or blender and then strain the juice. See below for details on juicing using both methods.
Recipe steps using a juicer
Step one
Wash all your products. Cut it into pieces small enough to fit through the hopper of your juicer.
step two
Place the chunks of vegetables and fruit into the hopper of your juicer. Alternate hard and soft pieces of fruit and veg to get the most juice out of your fruit and veg.
step three
Serve the juice immediately. It is best served immediately after preparation.
As always, please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.
Recipe steps using a blender
Step one
Wash all your products. Cut all produce into pieces small enough to fit through your juicer’s hopper.
step two
Combine the ingredients in the base of a high speed blender. You may need to add 1/4 – 1/2 cup of water to fully assist the ingredient blender.
step three
Process on high for about 30-45 seconds.
step four
Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag, leaving only the juice. Discard the pulp or save it for another use (like in these carrot crackers).
Recipe tips & substitutes
Fresh juices should be consumed within 24 hours for optimal nutrition. Store leftovers in a tightly closed container in the refrigerator.
This recipe is very forgiving. You can change the amount of ginger you use. You can also add other ingredients like celery, cucumber or apple.
You can also omit the oranges, ginger and lemon to make a pure 100% carrot juice with no other ingredients other than carrots.
Frequently asked questions about recipes
How do you make carrot juice in the blender?
To make fresh juice in a blender, all you have to do is add the same ingredients to a high-speed blender, such as a Blendtec or vitamin mix, turn to high and stir until smooth. Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag to catch the fiber and then enjoy the juice. My Carrot Pulp Crackers can be made from the pulp!
Check out my complete guide to juicing with a Vitamix.
Can carrot juice turn your skin orange?
Yes, that can happen. This is because carrot juice is so rich in carotenoids, an antioxidant found in carrots. The change in skin tone is likely to be temporary, but you should ask your doctor if it’s safe for you.
Is juicing healthy?
Juice can definitely be part of a healthy diet. Fresh juice is particularly rich in vitamins and other micronutrients. Most juices also contain some fiber, although most of it is taken out during the juicing process. A lower amount of fiber can be beneficial to get many micronutrients without taxing the digestive system.
You should talk to your doctor about people with blood sugar dysregulation, pregnancy or a weakened immune system.
What is the best juicer?
I highly recommend using a masticatory juicer if you plan on making a lot of juice at home. It’s an investment, but it’s not outrageously expensive. I have an Omega juicer and am very happy with it.
Read more about how to choose a juicer that perfectly suits your needs.

Start your day with this apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. This recipe can help improve your health, including lowering your blood sugar, losing weight, and improving your digestion.
Many of us have heard about the amazing health benefits of apple cider vinegarbut of course the taste can be a bit hard to swallow.
You also don’t want pure vinegar on your teeth lest it erode the enamel. When you mix it with some other healthy ingredients, you get a delicious drink that you can feel good about.
Why you need this recipe
This apple cider vinegar drink recipe contains vitamin C and may help lower blood sugar levels.
This healthy drink takes minutes to make and is made with pantry ingredients you likely have on hand.
No blender is required so you can make this while everyone else is still sleeping if you are an early riser.
main ingredients
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is a healthy fermented vinegar with natural probiotics and healthy bacteria. At least one study has shown that the acetic acid in vinegar can help lower blood sugar levels. I like to use an unfiltered, organic apple cider vinegar like Bragg’s.
Fresh Lemon JuiceAlthough it is acidic, it adds a better flavor to the strong vinegar. The lemon water also helps add vitamin C, which supports the immune system. You can also use lime juice if you like. Do not use orange juice as it contains too much sugar.
raw honey (or maple syrup) adds just the right amount of sweetness to make this drink go down easily. If you’re concerned about adding sugar, you can use liquid stevia instead (see my list of the best natural sugar substitutes).
recipe steps
Let me show you how easy it is to make this apple cider vinegar detox drink that can be part of a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Step one
In a jar with a lid or tall glass, add 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, water, and lemon juice.
As always, please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.
step two
Shake or beat well until the mixture appears homogeneous.
step three
Add sweetener to taste and mix to dissolve well. drink up!
You might want to drink a tall glass of water after your apple cider vinegar shot. You can also drink it through a straw if you’re worried the acid will erode your tooth enamel.
Recipe tips & substitutes
This recipe is at its strongest right after it’s made, but you can make it ahead of time if you’d like. Store in a covered container and shake before serving. It keeps in the fridge for up to 5 days.
You can easily double, triple or even quadruple this recipe if you like.
If you prefer a sweeter version, increase the honey to 1-2 teaspoons (note, however, that the added sugar may decrease this drink’s hypoglycemic properties).
If you want a vegan version, use maple syrup instead of honey.
Want a spicy kick? Try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper!
Frequently asked questions about recipes
What is the nut in apple cider vinegar?
This is the actual organism that ferments the vinegar and provides probiotics. Choosing a bottle of ACV with this content will give you the best benefits you can have. Think of the nut as the SCOBY that helps make kombucha.
Is this recipe vegan?
I usually reach for honey to sweeten drinks like this, but if you’re vegan (or don’t like the taste of honey in this drink), plain maple syrup is a great option.
Do I have to drink this on an empty stomach first?
You can, but you don’t have to. A small study showed that drinking vinegar before bed can help with blood sugar levels. Ask your doctor when he or she recommends consuming this drink.
Can I eat honey if I have diabetes?
Talk to your doctor. However, a study showed that honey can have a positive effect on body weight and lipids, including triglyceride levels, in diabetics.
Does this drink help my digestive system?
It may be, but there is no scientific evidence for it.
How much of this drink should I consume?
The recipe makes one serving, but you can halve it if you’d like.
